RECOARO

LA MONTAGNA SPACCATA

It is a rocky formation tightly linked to the Small Dolomites. It dates back to the Late Triassic, about two hundred million years ago, when the land of the Recoaro valley were submerged by the waters of the Thetis sea. The deep fissure that splits the mountain in two was dug into the rock by the Torrazzo stream.
This place is famous for its legends on mysterious female sea creatures called the “anguane” (creatures from the Alpine mythology, similar to nymphs or water fairies). It is easier to come across these beings at night and if there is water nearby: that is when the “anguane” come out with their baskets to wash clothes, but beware, for these creatures are fickle and dangerous. They could appear with their long, swaying hair and bewitching shapes, to drag you to the bottom of their pit or puddle and hold you prisoner forever.

PERCORSO EXCALIBUR
Built around 1995 and 1996 under the initiative of the Montana Alto Astico Community and the Municipality of Tonezza, in collaboration of Veneto Agricoltura – Regional agency of the Forests of the Veneto Region, the Excalibur route is a 2-hour-long path. Every year it welcomes school groups and many individual visitors. It is a loop itinerary located in “La pontara”, west of Tonezza, and winds along meadows and pastures, in an area encircled by fir and beech tree woods.
For this reason, the path is the perfect educational itinerary for school groups, since it allows them to discover the landscape of the Veneto pre-Alps and to recognise the presence of man on the mountains, (given the fact that some of the old districts are still well preserved). In addition to anthropological and naturalistic aspects, the Excalibur route is perfect to explain to children the role of the Tonezza Plateau during the First World War, since it left some signs along the path, such as a fortress and a trench, both open to the public. 10 stops are planned, each of them offering educational-recreational activities: Le dolci linee del paesaggio; Il “vecchio Faggio”; I sorprendenti Larici; La “Contrà Vallà”; La “Valle dei ciliegi”; Il fortino; Le antiche cave; La sorgente; Dentro la trincea; Incontro con il Bosco.

OASI WWF DI CASALE
www.oasidicasale.it
The ponds of this oasis are one of the last damp areas of this territory: a real oasis in a desert of concrete.
The ponds and wetlands that make up the oasis are the result of past clay excavation activities.
In the last decades, the abandonment of the excavation sites has created the perfect conditions for the progressive colonisation of the area by the typical vegetation of the wetlands. The presence of holes of different size and depth favoured the interesting environmental diversification, so that currently the area appears as a mosaic of perpetually flooded surfaces, devoid of vegetation, areas covered in marshy herbaceous vegetation (reeds, in particular), willow trees, bushes, uncultivated ruderal meadows and rural hedges.

GIOCOSCIENZA

c/o Palazzo Corielli (I piano), via Cardinal De Lai, 2 36034 - Malo (VI)

HOW TO REACH GIOCOSCIENZA

www.associazionetrama.it

giocoscienzaJust like real researchers, children can collect data through their senses, selecting and comparing them and formulating hypotheses.
Toys, especially the handmade ones, are perfect “study partners”, because the way they work is often linked to the laws of physics: through the guided analysis of a toy, it is easy to understand physics concepts, such as air resistance, balance, sound waves, leverages, elasticity, friction. This is one of the main objectives of the visit to this exhibition: being able to recognise the simple laws of physics in our everyday life.
As for adults, there is the chance to try the showcased toys and experience childhood once again.
There are about twenty types of toys showcased in the building, together with many other prototypes.

SEGHERIA MIOLA - MIOLA SAWMILL

MONDO ANIMALE - ANIMAL WORLD

Palazzo Bonaguro - Via Angarano, 77 - 36061 Bassano del Grappa

HOW TO REACH ‘MONDO ANIMALE’

sito web

mondoanimaleThe project of the permanent exhibition “Animal World – understand it to safeguard it” aims at raising the awareness of the visitors about the importance of the protection of endangered species. The stars of the exhibitions are several mammals from different continents, some belonging to critically endangered species, such as the Saiga antelope, some belonging to species that are now less-threatened thanks to the norms of international protection, such as the leopard.
Three rooms contain several specimen of bears, tropical felids, Asian ungulates and rare representatives of the European fauna, such as the wolf, the lynx and the wild cat. One of the strengths and novelties of the exhibition is definitely the layout, built around the animals, that recreates their natural habitat. Along the walls, a single continuous strip offers real images of the environments and the descriptions of the species, with information on their habitat, distribution and conservation. The use of sounds and lights helps conveying the feeling of being surrounded by nature.

NEL REGNO DELLE FARFALLE - INSIDE THE BUTTERFLIES’ KINGDOM

Via Lago di Aleghe, 33 - 36015 Schio

HOW TO REACH ‘REGNO DELLE FARFALLE’

www.nelregnodellefarfalle.it

neregnodellefarfalleThe museum was founded by Giancarlo Paglia, who decided to transform his private collection into a real museum with more than 10.000 butterflies of 250 different species in 300 showcases, recreating the habitat where they live. A tour to the natural paradise of the alpine areas of Italy. Visitors are welcomed by a phrase carved in stone, stating “Inside the butterflies’ kingdom”, a themed mosaic counter, gadgets, brochures on the museum and books on butterflies. The exhibition is developed on a surface of almost 2.000 square metres, dominated by giant posters recreating the natural environments of the Alpine diurnal butterflies.
This is all thanks to the Paglia family’s passion for butterflies: they have crossed most of Italy with their camper in search of the local species of lepidoptera, from Posina to Cervino (butterflies, with their fragile wings, are able to live at 3,000 metres above sea level) and from Val Senales to Mount Novegno, passing through Tuscany and Liguria.
The cataloguing of the 250 Italian species is divided into subspecies, shapes, gender and behavioural habits. The proposed tour is divided into 5 routes based on time, environment, geography, science and ecology.

IL MULINO MAIN - L'ORDITO E LA TRAMA

telaio_posina1
telaio_posina
posina
Contrà Ressi, Posina

The aim of the association is to promote the reintroduction of the entire manual supply chain of the textile product (such as scarves and shawls, carpets, pieces of furniture) with exclusively natural yarn, both of animal (wool and cashmere) and vegetal origin (linen, cotton and ramie).
The association organises:
- Courses to learn how the supply chain works;
- Craft production of fabrics and looms, using untreated wool and vegetable fiber.
- Educational workshops on the process of fabrics: carding, spinning, colouring, weaving.

lavoro_bambini_posinaIn Posina, in collaboration with the municipality, educational activities will take place in the newly restored mill, built near the Main Lake. The lake is surrounded by meadows with playgrounds and a suggestive café. There is also an area for campers and a big car park. At the mill it will be possible to:

- Get to know the chain of artisan wool production;
- See the weaving work on a traditional 4-heddle loom;
- See how the woollen yarn, that can then be used for all textile purposes, is obtained from raw wool (sheep wool is also used for spinning as soon as it is sheared);
- Experience weaving on real small looms.

MUSEO DIFFUSO in Lusiana

The educational activities the Museo Diffuso in Lusiana has to offer range from themed activities linked to archaeology, ethnography, to the environment and the territory. In addition to guided visits lead by our experienced operators, educational workshops are provided, which allow students to put into practice what they have just learnt. All our proposals can be combined to ensure maximum flexibility in terms of time. Visitors can therefore decide whether to spend half a day or a full day inside the museum.

Ethnographic proposal
Pallazzon Museum, to discover the traditions of the past.
Visiting the exhibition area allows students to experience the ways of living and working of the past, with highlights on the ways people used to get, prepare and preserve food. The tour leads the visitors through settings recreated with historical accuracy: kitchen, basements, rooms, outdoor space. In the section dedicated to straw manufacture, it is possible to see the ancient tools used to weave the straw to create bags and hats. Upon request, at the end of the visit, it will be possible to participate to one of the following activities: Weaving workshop, to experience the ancient art of weaving; Cheese making workshop, consisting of a practical demonstration of milk processing (max group of 20 students); audio-visual projection.

Archaeological proposal
On Mount Corgnon, a walk in Prehistoric times.
From the centre of Lusiana, walking down a path in the woods, we reach the ancient settlement of Mount Corgnon. Inside the huts of the reconstructed Prehistoric village, it is possible to relive the main activities of man during the Bronze Age thanks to one of our operators: clay processing, loom weaving, archery, necklace making, bread baking.
The presence of the forest, as well as the possibility to walk along some trenches from the Great War and the panoramic position of the village help creating a unique atmosphere.

Naturalistic proposal
ALPINE BOTANICAL GARDEN ON MOUNT CORNO
Environment and flora of the Vicentine Mountains.
Along the suggestive path visitors can admire the beautiful scenery, made of alpine pastures, marble extraction and process sites, trenches of the Great War and the British cemetery, as well as the spectacular rock formations called the “City of stone”.
The visit to the garden with specialised operators or with the botanist lets the visitors discover the world of alpine flora. It hosts about 400 species and visitors will have the chance to observe special flowerings, such as the one of the PIANELLA DELLA MADONNA in mid-June, or that of the ALPINE POPPY, from June to the end of September.
Botany courses and microscopic observation are also provided in the outdoor hall.

Ethnographic-naturalistic proposal
The Mill valley, millstones and hydraulic works in the wild.
The valley is a breath-taking environment enriched with all sorts of hydraulic works, from the mills for wheat and corn, to the ancient mallets for iron and the place for the process of barley.
In Valle di Sotto it is possible to visit the old “Garzotto” mill, the place where the mallet is, the oven for the bread baking and the small traditional cheese factory. There will be a stop along the path to visit the restored place “dei Rigine”, a perfect panoramic spot to observe the water intake works. Within easy reach there is also the Sola Mill, equipped with two wheels. The visit can be completed with a stop at the ancient district of Covolo, with view on the Sojo geological survey, where a climbing wall has been built.
From there, there is the Parco del Sojo (Sojo Park) within walking distance, that hosts a permanent modern art exhibition.

Area for practical demonstration of activities in the woods
Plants, rocks, wood, carbon, lime.
The “Labioli” area has been created in a clearing in the middle of the woods, 5 km away from Lusiana, where practical demonstrations of activities, such as coal and lime production and the manufacturing of roof tiles, take place. Visitors can explore the spaces where the miners and the woodcutters work and observe the “calcara” (an oven for the process of lime) and the coal mines.
The visit is a unique opportunity to deepen the knowledge of the natural environment and to reconnect with nature by recalling the old trades. During the stay, expert operators provide explanations on how to recognise rocks, trees, plants, bushes and karst phenomena. Visitors will have the chance to collect material for small herbaria. After returning to Palazzon Museum, it will also be possible to watch some documentaries on coal and the lime mines.
