Contrà Cesare Battisti angolo Contrà Fedele Lampertico
The dome was designed by Andrea Palladio in 1565 and is derived from the one covering the Pantheon.
The apse was erected in the first half of th e16th century, by Lorenzo da Bologna and Rocco da Vicenza.
The conception of the door, which has been attributed to Palladio, was commisioned by canon Paolo Almerigo as recorded by the inscription legible when leaving the church: "MATTHEO PRIOLO ANTISTATE PAULUS ALMERICUS PORTAM HANC ADAPERUIT".
The nobleman, Paolo Almerico, commissioned the Villa Capra, now Valmarana and known as the "Rotonda".
The door was installed in the place of a previous Gothic one in 1575. Externally, two Corinthian pilasters support an architrave decorated with a mask and festoons. |
