Civena Trissino Palace is one of Andrea Palladio's early works, begun in 1540 and completed only a few years later.
Giangiorgio Civena and his brothers actually bought the area required for construction of the building in 1540. The date is noted thanks to the discovery of a commemorative medal which, according to tradition, was placed amongst the foundation materials. The facade is measured by five lower arches and by the pilasters and gabled windows of the piano nobile. In 1801 it was enlarged with the construction of a wing in the courtyard. Two more were later added at the sides of the facade, between 1819 and 1820.
The palace was badly damaged by bombing in the Second World War. It was subsequently rebuilt, but only the external structure was restored to its former design while the upper interiors were completely altered. |
