Crafts activities boast a very long tradition in the Veneto region, a land which has been fortunate both in terms of its geographical position and historic background, thanks above all to the prosperity achieved during the dominion of the Republic of Venice.
However, for Veneto crafts activities continue to be one of the main sources of employment and wealth today, thanks to the skill of master craftsmen and the range of promotional events, such as the exhibitions and fairs which follow one another without interruption throughout the year. In order to provide the attentive and curious tourist with a simple but detailed guide to “crafts itineraries” in our region, PromoVeneto, the consortium of the Chambers of Commerce, in collaboration with Touring Club Italiano, have published the "Guida all’Artigianato Veneto" (Guide to crafts in Veneto).
The "Guida all'Artigianato Veneto" is an journey through the crafts of our region, exploring a form of manufacturing industry which has succeeded in regenerating itself and keeping abreast with the times, promoting itself at street markets and via the Internet, and which has its foundations in quality antiques, but also in the creativity of master craftsmen and the ability of restorers, whether of buildings or furniture.
The volume contains detailed maps of the four provinces of Vicenza, Verona, Padua and Belluno, fourteen itineraries for visits in search of quality products, a calendar of exhibitions, markets and fairs, references to ethnographic and crafts museum and all the addresses useful when shopping for exclusive craft products.
Our region has indeed much to offer: from the gold for which Vicenza is famous, to the glass in which Venice excels, the reproduction furniture and wrought ironware from Belluno and the masterpieces of decoration, engraving and restoration in the province of Padua, to conclude with the hand-crafted furniture and marble works for which Verona is famous. This is therefore a useful and unique guide, which stimulates us to explore places often hidden or unknown, where we can admire the working techniques of an old and genuine art and meet the master craftsmen who may well disappear in the years to come. |
