Palazzo da Schio

Contrà San Marco, 39
Count Bernardo Schio began rebuilding his palace beyond the Pusterla bridge in 1560. According to Franco Barbieri, the facade was still not complete in 1565. It was probably finished in 1566 to a design by Palladio, whose hand is now universally recognized.
The two storey building features rustication on the lower floor which radiates around the entrance arch and the openings illuminating the basement. The piano nobile is marked by four Corinthian semi-columns and three windows crowned with triangular gables. The interior has been completely altered by various restorations made over the centuries. A charming garden extends from the rear to the bank of the nearby Bacchiglione river. |
