The following fabric is located at Bagnolo, a hamlet two miles from Lonigo (castle of Vicenza land): it is owned by the Magnificent Lords Earls Vittore, Marco and Daniele, Pisani brothers". These are the words used by Andrea Palladio to introduce the design of Villa Pisani in his treatise "The Four Books of Architecture" published in 1570 at Venice.
After a long period of carelessness, it was being skillfully restored for these last years with the aim of giving it back its original look: in fact, it was transformed by several interventions that changed even the inside volumes.
The published design shows a much more comple0 structure than the actual building: in fact the side-houses which would have surrounded the large rear countryyard were not built. Some surveys carried out with innovating techniques have shown that the building was erected in two phases: the firs t one occurred from 1540 to 1544 and concerned the main structure, whereas in the second phase ( from 1560 to appro0imately 34) the loggia was built.
The frontal facade is characterized by two small towers joined by the rusticated arches crowned by the pediment with Pisani coat-of-arms. The presence of three barrel-vaults resembles other Palladian works, such as Villa Caldogno, Villa Marcello Curti and Villa Saraceno The Landmark trust.. Long time ago the Villa opened to Guà stream reflcting view on its waters. Unfortunately a bank built in the last century to restrain the periodical floods cuts the natural space between the building and the river. |
