In the garden, rising on the hill, three villas stand at different levels. The residence at the foot of the hill is ornamented with beautiful ionic loggias; the frescoes in the central hall is notable for its wooden painting ceiling, unique in the Vicenza area, decorated with birds and ornamental bases. On the right stands the so-called "Ca' Molina", with its interesting facade combining 18th century features with its original 16th century structure. The small villa on top, built in 1690 by Garzadori and decorated with frescoes probably by L. Dorigny, is known as "la grotta dei Marinali" because sculptor Marinali had here his workshop and was so fond of the place that he left here a small self-portrait monument. From this workshop came the statues once in the formal gardens. Notable are those on the Dwarfs' Staircase: Neptune with Dolphin and that of Andromeda. |
