The palace built for Montano Barbaran has a new-found splendor after its long restoration. The building houses the International "Andrea Palladio" Architecture Centre and the Palladian Museum, devoted to Andrea Palladio's life and works.
Palladio was working on this building when he published his treatise (1569-70), as he himself noted.
The solemn facade is enriched with a double Ionic (lower facade) and Corinthian (upper facade) order, and decorations at the sides of the windows on the piano nobile. The ground floor rooms and the great hall are decorated with rich stuccoes.
The attic is dominated by square windows and small pilasters.
The asymmetry of the facade is caused, as Martin Kubelik notes, by the fact that the owner later bought additional land in order to add two further bays. Palladio also had to make adaptations in the construction of this building because of the shape of the site and existing road layout, to the detriment of its right angled symmetry.
