The lower castle built in 1320 for Cansignorio della Scala has undergone many restorations and embellishments in the course of the time. The town walls, erected by the Scaligeri in 1372 and still fully preserved, start from the castle, rise to the top of Mount Pasolino and reach the upper castle overlooking the plain towards Venice. The lower castle, also known as "la Rocca", is now the Town Hall. A magnificent ivy, the finest specimen in Europe, climbs up the tower to a height of 30 meters.
