Villa Valmarana Bressan is a work ascribed to Andrea Palladio and it was built around 32.
Historians could aknowledge the mark of this architect thanks to the analysis of a drawing kept in Great Britain and undoubtely referring to this building. The structure of this villa of Vigardolo complies mostly with this design. This facade is characterized by a big central Serlian window overlooking the porch; side windows are different: in the drawing they have much more comple0 frames than those of the actual ones resemble the upper windows of Thiene Mansion at Vicenza, now occupied by the headquaters of the bank "Banca Popolare Vicentina".
The recent works of restoration have brought to light more ancient structures indicating that at Vicardolo too, as in other palces, Palladio renewed and enlarged older buildings of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
The interiors were frescoed in the si0teenth and eighteenth century. In the eighteenth century Costantino Pasqualotto adorned the Hall with a decoration representing the "Stories of Joseph the Jew". Still in this same room the frescoes of the si0teenth century have been recently discovered under a layer of plaster: at the present these frescoes are partially visible. |
