Giardini Valmarana Salvi
The Palladian Loggia of the Counts Valmarana faces onto the water of the Seriola which runs through the Valmarana gardens. The park, now council property, was opened to the public in 1592 by virtue of the owner, Leonardo Valmarana. It was once structured according to the geometrical patterns of formal Italian gardens as is shown in various documents, including an 18th century engraving by Cristoforo Dall'Acqua. The six, Doric columns of the loggia are crowned with a triangular gable.
This is valuable example of a structure built by an artist attentive to the teachings of Andrea Palladio, perhaps by Leoonardo Valmarana himself. On the western side of the garden, a second loggia rises from the water. This was conceived by Baldassare Longhena in the 17th century and was previously adorned with statues by Orazio Marinali. |
